KnowledgeTree 3.7 - Windows Stack Installation

KnowledgeTree 3.7 Community Edition is the first release of KnowledgeTree built on Zend Server, our new, integrated software stack installer from Zend Technologies. This new Zend stack allows you to install KnowledgeTree on Windows 2008 Server, and Microsoft IIS 6 and 7. The KnowledgeTree 3.7 Community edition stack installer configures the underlying platform; then, when KnowledgeTree starts the first time, a web-based Setup Wizard displays to walk you through a configuration of your system.

Prepare to install

1. Download KnowledgeTree 3.7 Community edition and open the EXE/MSI file to start the installation.

Note: To install on Windows Vista and Server 2008 users must run the installer as an Administrator:
either turn off UAC (User Access control) before installing,
or right-click the EXE/MSI file and choose Run as adminstrator.

2. The KnowledgeTree Install Wizard will detect whether you have Zend Server installed.

Note: Zend Server is required for this install type.  
* If you have Zend Server installed, you can start installing KnowledgeTree now.
* If you do not have Zend Server installed, click Yes; then go to the next step
to install Zend Server.

3. The KnowledgeTree Install Wizard will need to download the MySQL package.

Note: You need to be connected to the Internet to download the MySQL package.
  Alternatively, you can install the MySQL Server manually.

Install Zend Server

1. If you chose to install Zend Server in the previous step, the Zend Server Installer launches, which will guide you through the process of installing Zend Server.

2. On 'Welcome to the Zend Server Installer' click Next.

3. On 'License Agreement' accept Zend Server's license terms and click Next.

4. On 'Setup Type', select an installation method for Zend Server. The default option, 'Typical', is recommended for most scenarios. Click Next.

5. On 'Web Server', select the Web Server to use: Apache or Microsoft IIS. You can use the default location or you can browse for an alternative. Click Next.

6. On 'Installation Settings', review your settings and the components that will be installed with Zend Server. To accept the settings and install Zend Server, click Install.

IMPORTANT: Zend Server Installer will start the web server you chose to install in step 5. If you have a firewall activated, you will need to allow the web server access by adding it as an exception.

7. Zend Server is installed. Choose whether to add a desktop shortcut and ensure 'Start Working with Zend Server' is selected. Click Finish.

8. The Zend Server Administration Interface opens in your browser. A license is not required for Zend Server unless you wish to enable advanced functionality.

On 'Welcome to Zend Server', do the following:

Set a password to use for accessing the Zend Server Administration Interface.
Leave the license details blank or should you require | Zend Server's advanced functionality enter your license details (not required for KnowledgeTree).
Choose whether to subscribe to Zend Server Product Update Notifications
If you have a license, click Enter, or otherwise, click Enter Without A License.

9. Zend Server’s web interface opens on the Dashboard.

Congratulations! Zend Server should now be up and running, and you can return to the KnowledgeTree Install Wizard to complete the KnowledgeTree installation.

Install KnowledgeTree

1. On 'Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for KnowledgeTree', click Next.

2. On 'License Agreement', read and accept KnowledgeTree's license terms. Click Next.

3. On 'Ready to Install the Program', click Install. The installation should take a few minutes to complete.

4. On 'InstallShield Wizard Completed', select the checkbox to launch the KnowledgeTree Setup Wizard once the installation is complete. Click Finish.
