This page contains important notes on the upgrade to KnowledgeTree 3.7. Please ensure that you read and understand these before performing the update on your production environment.

KnowledgeTree on Zend Server

The release of KnowledgeTree 3.7 introduces a significant change to the KnowledgeTree Stack. From version 3.7 onward KnowledgeTree will be deployed on Zend Server, an enterprise-grade PHP stack, with support for both IIS and Apache.

The upgrade from KnowledgeTree version 3.6.1 to 3.7 will migrate your installation to the new Zend Server -based stack. This migration process will be automated by the KnowledgeTree Setup Wizard (part of the new KnowledgeTree Stack installer).

The new Zend Server Stack consists of the following components:

  • Zend PHP
  • MySQL (a new MySQL server)
  • Apache (Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Linux)
  • Microsoft IIS 6 and 7 (Windows Server 2003 and 2008)


Upgrade and Migration Process

The KnowledgeTree Setup Wizard will perform the following steps during the migration to KnowledgeTree 3.7:

1) Export the KnowledgeTree 3.6.1 database to your disk.

(Windows: c:/kt-db-backup/*.sql Linux: /tmp/kt-db-backup/*.sql )

2) Ensure that you have shutdown all old KnowledgeTree Services

3) Configure and guide you through the installation of the new KnowledgeTree Services

4) Check that all environment dependencies have been met

5) Migrate the 3.6.1 database to the new Zend Server MySQL installation

6) Run the Database Upgrade Wizard to upgrade your database to version 3.7


New directory location

The KnowledgeTree 3.7 Stack is installed to a new location on the file system.

  • On Windows:

c:\Program Files\Zend\ktdms

  • On Linux

/usr/share/knowledgetree


Migration: Documents directory

KnowledgeTree stores all document content on the file system. By default the location of this document store is in

<KnowledgeTree Directory>/Documents

The migration to KnowledgeTree 3.7 will not move the documents directory. KnowledgeTree will continue to reference the documents directory in the same location. For example - if your documents directory is in c:\Program Files\ktdms\Documents, KnowledgeTree will continue to use this directory.
