What's New in 3.5.2a

There are no new features in KnowledgeTree 3.5.2a.

Enhancements in 3.5.2

KnowledgeTree Server
  • New PHP5 and MySQL5 stack enhances performance and stability, and supports Windows® Vista®.
  • New search engine – includes offline document indexing, a search query builder, ranked results, wild cards, and result snippets.
  • EXIF Indexer for TIFF and JPG files extracts the metadata embedded by some scanners and digital cameras.
  • Improvements to KnowledgeTree's web interface:
    • Bulk Actions now available on the Search Results page and Browse Documents
    • Additional workflow triggers, such as 'Copy Workflow', which makes a copy of a document when it reaches a specified workflow state.
  • Progress bars show the status of tasks in progress.
  • Ability to delete users from the system.
  • A Task Scheduler that allows you to create Plugins for setting up custom, pre-defined, time-based tasks that you may want to run automatically within KnowledgeTree.
  • Custom Document Numbering plugin – create your own numbering schemes by document type to use as the KnowledgeTree document IDs
  • Document Version Comparison – generates a document through OpenOffice, showing content changes between any two versions of a document with the same mime type, and allows output to a downloadable PDF
  • Conditional Metadata – a new fieldset type that allows you to define master Lookup fields with associated lookup values; the lookup values that display are dependent on the lookup fields selected, and you can configure the order in which the lookup fields are presented to users for the purpose of entering document metadata.
  • Office 2007 support for both client and server

KnowledgeTree Tools 3.5.2

  • Administrative user defines whether to allow or disallow KnowledgeTree Tools from automatically saving user passwords
  • German translation of KnowledgeTree Tools interface is now available
  • View document properties of checked-out documents in KnowledgeTree Tools
  • Per document metadata entry on multiple document drag and drop upload (common metadata can be applied to several files)

Upgrading

  • Upgrades of Beta and Release Candidates to Latest Stable Release are not supported.
  • Before you begin ...
    • Backup your repository.
    • Ensure that the MySQL process for KnowledgeTree is stopped before upgrading. On some systems, the Upgrade Installer is not automatically stopping the MySQL process.

Installing KnowledgeTree Commercial Edition

1. Download and install all KnowledgeTree Commercial components:

  • KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows (Note: Run setup.exe -i.e. not the msi file)
  • KnowledgeTree DWI Service - optional
  • KnowledgeTree License (SMB/Enterprise, or Enterprise Trial)
  • KnowledgeTree server


2. Add your license in KnowledgeTree's DMS Administration module in the Web interface.


3. Configure a connection from KnowledgeTree Explorer to the KnowledgeTree server

  • KTS-3153

In KnowledgeTree's web interface, when browsing to a folder that exists as a sub-folder (child folder) in a higher level folder (the parent folder), and the parent folder has a folder name containing an ampersand character '&'; then, note that the breadcrumb navigation may display '.' instead of the full name of the parent folder.


  • Upgrade installer does not stop MySQL processes, causing upgrade to fail

On some systems (Linux and Windows / Community Edition and Commercial Edition), the upgrade installer is not automatically stopping the MySQL process and this is causing upgrades to 3.5.2 to fail. Please ensure that the MySQL process for KnowledgeTree is stopped before upgrading. See Important Upgrade Notes for KnowledgeTree to find out more about stopping MySQL.


Known Issues: KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows

BBS-1329: This error was reported during testing in the context of an exception that occurred while adding an email to the DMS. However, it has been found to occur infrequently, and is not limited to this use case. This issue may typically occur during general interactions with Office, and is caused by memory access violations in the COM interaction with Microsoft Office.


Defect Repairs

KnowledgeTree Commercial Server

  • KTC-452: Upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a creates duplicate menu items. Fixed.
  • KTC-450: Fatal error after adding a document and browsing back to folder view. Closed. Cannot Reproduce.
  • KTC-449: Catchable fatal error when attempting to upload a doc after upgrading from 3.4.6OSS to 3.5.a Commercial. Fixed.
  • KTC-447: Unexpected error to add document - Couldn't store contents: Could not create directory for storage. Closed. Cannot Reproduce.
  • KTC-445: Problem with Workflow Triggers. Fixed.
  • KTC-444: SQL Error in the Indexer. Fixed
  • KTC-443: No dashlets are displayed on Ie7 after upgrading from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a. Fixed.
  • KTC-441: Unable to upload a license into the Server. Fixed.
  • KTC-436: 500 Internal Server Errors Happen when Uploading Files through KTE or KT Webdav. Fixed.
  • KTC-433: Full Path Search Broken - says field not found: Full. Fixed.

KnowledgeTree Community Edition Server

  • KTS-3237: Document Indexer dashlet shows the number of documents in the queue to include the problem documents in the queue. Fixed.
  • KTS-3236: Improvement. Indexing process should skip temporary files as the indexer process is likely to fail resulting in users being confused. Fixed.
  • KTS-3235: Indexer unable to index a MS PPT 2003 document. Fixed.
  • KTS-3229: SQL for search cleanup function is not compatible in newer versions of mysql. Fixed.
  • KTS-3227: After upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a fonts are still serif fonts. Closed. Won't Fix.
  • KTS-3226: Upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a creates duplicate services. Fixed.
  • KTS-3225: Upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a fails to stop Apache service first. Fixed.
  • KTS-3223: Missing Dashlet: 'Items that require your attention'. Closed. Won't Fix.
  • KTS-3222: Problem with open office service on linux. Fixed.
  • KTS-3217: Unable to upgrade from 3.4.6 - 3.5.2a. Fixed.
  • KTS-3209: Incorrect sql query in search2/indexes Indexer::clearoutDeleted. Closed. Cannot Reproduce.
  • KTS-3208: Error when adding external links to a document. Fixed.
  • KTS-3206: Upgrading from OSS 3.4.6 to 3.5.2a shows the error 'Could not locate the df library'. Fixed.
  • KTS-3205: dmsDefaults refers to KTDIR and not KT_DIR. Fixed.
  • KTS-3204: Search engine results references Score field, which should be Rank. Fixed.
  • KTS-3203: Ensure all entries in config.ini have a default in dmsDefaults.php. Fixed.
  • KTS-3201: Improvement. Ability to toggle between old 'browse view' search results, and 'search engine' results view. Fixed.
  • KTS-3200: Error during database upgrade: 3.4.6 to 3.5.2a. Fixed.
  • KTS-3199: Cannot scroll to the right or left on the workflow configuration page of a large workflow. Fixed.
  • KTS-3188: Indexing Diagnostics page provides an invalid link to documents. Fixed.
  • KTS-3187: Problem with opendir() in windows under indexerCore. Fixed.
  • KTS-3184: Dashboard reflecting disk space incorrectly. It is showing the Gig amounts as Meg amounts. Fixed.

  • KTS-3180: AddOutputFilterByType command has been deprecated in apache 2.1 and later. Fixed.

  • KTS-3178: Checking for write permission doesn't check if document is immutable; if immutable, user cannot have write access. Fixed.
  • KTS-3177: Unit admin permissions. Fixed.
  • KTS-3172: Indexer should default to JavaXMLRPCLuceneIndexer in dmsDefaults. Fixed.
  • KTS-3171: Add extra validation for Permission::userIsSystemAdministrator(). Fixed.
  • KTS-3168: Searching integer field types results in SQL error. Fixed.
  • KTS-3167: Issue with viewing resolved permissions for all users. Fixed.
  • KTS-3166: On certain systems the external binaries are not found after upgrade. Fixed.
  • KTS-3165: Improvement. Remove background task permissions problems by making web server user deal with background tasks. Fixed.
  • KTS-3164: Improvement. Removed Title from being part of GeneralText criteria for search as it is catered for by the FullPath. Fixed.
  • KTS-3163: Wildcard search on metadata inconsistent with full text content search. Fixed.
  • KTS-3160: Storage Utilization Widget shows MB instead of GB. Fixed.
  • KTS-3155: Error when renaming folders that contain special characters. Fixed.
  • KTS-3154: New Tags with spaces are created without spaces. Fixed.
  • KTS-3152: CLONE -The new font type (Verdana?) in 3.5.2 leads to messy views(sup-640). Fixed.
  • KTS-3150: WebDAV Interface - "&" in folder names causes error. Fixed.
  • KTS-3149: Incorrect fonts are displayed on Linux. Fixed.
  • KTS-3142: File types for Office 2007 documents not recognized correctly by the DMS. Fixed.

KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows

  • BBS-1332: Windows XP and Server 2003 restarts automatically (without asking the user permission) when uninstalling with the Start menu 'Uninstall' link. Fixed.
  • BBS-1331: Exception when attempting to save an attachment to the DMS. Fixed.
  • BBS-1327: The email cannot be saved to KnowledgeTree because Outlook is preventing the email file from being saved. Fixed.
  • BBS-1325: Icons on the 'Access Denied' dialog not the same as on other KTTools interfaces. Fixed.
  • BBS-1324: Desktop Imaging: Failure to save the file to the DMS. Fixed.
  • BBS-1322: Dialog needs a type icon: in this case an 'Information' icon. Fixed.
  • BBS-1320: Word crash after saving a new doc to the the DMS from Word with 'KnowledgeTree Save'. Fixed.
  • BBS-1319: When connection 'Test' failes due to incorrect user credentials the 'Access Denied' dialog appears behind the 'Server Connections' dialog. Fixed.
  • BBS-1318: CLONE -When a document starts of as e.g. a .doc file, but the next version is a pdf file, then it remains to be seen as a Word document in some respects(SUP-675). Fixed.
  • BBS-1316: Unable to direclty upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.2a. Fixed.
  • BBS-1315: Exception when attempting to save a new Word document to the DMS with KnowledgeTree Save. Fixed.
  • BBS-1314: Exception when having an automatic Workflow Transition action that moves the document to another folder. Fixed.
  • BBS-1313: User not allowed to cancel out of the Document Properties dialog when a required field is in the active Doc Type or in the Generic metadata fields. Fixed.
  • BBS-1312: 'OK' button never re-enabled on the Metadata Capture dialog if the user does not fill in the required fileds the first time around. Fixed.
  • BBS-1311: When entering anything other than an alphabetical character as a reason for the reason field on a any action KTE crashes with an exception. Fixed.
  • BBS-1310: After document upload via KTE and the subsequent auto-refresh of the folder multiple copies of all documents are displayed in the KTE window. Fixed.
  • BBS-1307: Exception when attempting to make a transition on a Workflow in KTE. Fixed.
  • BBS-1306: Unable to upload any documents via KTE. Fixed.
  • BBS-1305: CLONE -There are inconsistencies in/between KT explorer and the Office add-in (Word and Excel verified) with regard to what happens to the local file upon save/checkin in KT (SUP-663). Fixed.
  • BBS-1304: If a workflow name contains an "&" its is displayed as "&" in the properties dialog box. Fixed.
  • BBS-1293: Opening a checked-out document with the "view" action sometimes throws an error. Closed. Cannot Reproduce.
  • BBS-1292: After saving a document, you are prompted to continue your work (re-checkout). Continuing work throws an error message. Fixed.
  • BBS-1277: A document is moved by a workflow into a folder, you cannot access that folder and you get an error. Fixed.
  • BBS-1276: CLONE -In KT Explorer, version 3.5.2, in a folder name, "&"is shown as "&". The folder cannot be opened.(SUP-639). Fixed.
  • BBS-1275: The OK button in the reasons window is greyed-out even when required fields have been filled in (SUP-615). Fixed.
  • BBS-1274: Tools metadata capture form crashes if document type contains no fields (SUP-615). Closed. Cannot Reproduce.
  • BBS-1268: CLONE -When saving a document from Word in KT, an untrusted template leads to an error message (no save)(SUP-629). Fixed.
  • BBS-1236: Check-in not possible with Drag&Drop as before. Closed. Won't Fix.
  • BBS-1086: CLONE -KnowledgeTree Tools Error After Making Workflow Transition (SUP-456). Fixed.
  • BBS-868: Improvement: CLONE -Login - remember password (SUP-177). Fixed
