What's New

KnowledgeTree Server 3.5.4

KnowledgeTree 3.5.4 includes several new features, important code enhancements, and many resolved issues.

  • KnowledgeTree Drop Box - drag and drop documents and folders from your Microsoft Windows desktop straight into KnowledgeTree. For more information on installing and using KnowledgeTree Drop Box, see the KnowledgeTree Client Tools Guide, or view the KnowledgeTree Drop Box webcast on the KnowledgeTree website.
  • Shortcuts - add shortcuts to documents or folders. Commercial Edition Only
  • Ajax Property Preview - provides quick access to document properties (metadata) via a Property Preview icon in the Browse view.
  • Time-based Alerts - set up Alerts on documents, then receive an email and a dashboard notice when action is due on the document. Commercial Edition Only
  • Subscriptions to Folders and all Sub folders - receive email notification on any changes to folders or sub folders where you have set up a subscription.
  • Password Reset - KnowledgeTree sends you an email to verify and change or restore your Login password. This feature is provided through a plugin, and is disabled by default.
  • Browse by tag cloud
  • Email a one-time download link to external users
  • Professional Translations - Italian, German, and French
  • Easier System Configuration - view and configure settings that were previously changed in the config.ini file, through System Configuration, a new administrative section in KnowledgeTree's Web interface.
  • Refactoring
    • Significant improvements to the Document Indexer
    • Improved logging mechanism
    • Modifications to the database schema to improve performance and simplify database management
    • Enhanced stack packages
    • Full support for FireFox 3, and Ubuntu 8.04

Downloading and Installing KnowledgeTree

System Requirements

Ensure that your environment meets at least the minimum system requirements.

Note: The requirements for the Source Only package differ from the stack installed systems. Check the   
KnowledgeTree website and the KnowledgeTree Installation Guide for the latest information (Community Edition only).


Upgrading

  • Upgrades of Beta and Release Candidates to Latest Stable Release are not supported.
    • Remember to Backup your existing repository.
    • Ensure that the MySQL process for KnowledgeTree is stopped before upgrading. On some systems, the Upgrade Installer is not automatically stopping the MySQL process.

Installing KnowledgeTree Commercial Edition

1. Download and install KnowledgeTree Commercial components:

  • KnowledgeTree Commercial On-premise Server
  • KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows (Note: Run setup.exe -i.e. not the msi file - on each client machine where you want to install KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows)
  • KnowledgeTree Commercial License (Premium/Plus/Basic, or Enterprise Trial)
  • KnowledgeTree Hot Folders (Beta) - optional
Notes:
* All components, except KnowledgeTree Hot Folders, are available on the Commercial Edition Download page. 
* The download for KnowledgeTree Hot Folders may be found here. The latest available version of KnowledgeTree Hot 
  Folders is Beta 1.0.2
* If you are not sure which license you need, Compare Products before purchasing a license, or 
  download the Enterprise Trial.
* Full download and installation / upgrade instructions are documented in the 
  KnowledgeTree Installation and Upgrade Guide. 
* Instructions for setting up your system are documented in the KnowledgeTree Administrator Manual.

2. Log in to KnowledgeTree’s Web interface to install your KnowledgeTree Commercial License.

Notes:
* KnowledgeTree’s Web interface Login page displays in your Web browser directly after you run the Server 
  Setup Wizard. 
* Use the following default credentials to log in the first time: username admin, and password admin

3. Configure a connection to KnowledgeTree through KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows, on each client machine where KnowledgeTree Client Tools is installed.


4. Set up KnowledgeTree for your organization.


Installing KnowledgeTree Community Edition

Stack Install

1. Download and install KnowledgeTree Community Edition, using the stack installer.

2. Log in to KnowledgeTree's Web interface to set up KnowledgeTree for your organization.

* KnowledgeTree’s Web interface Login page displays in your Web browser directly after you run the Server Setup 
  Wizard. 
* Use the following default credentials to log in the first time: username admin, and password admin

Source Only Install

1. Download and install the KnowledgeTree Source Only package.

Known Issues

KnowledgeTree Server

  • KTS-3763 - A limitation of the Zip functionality outside of KnowledgeTree’s control prevents unzipping of archives that contain files or folders with any of the following characters in the file or folder name, and the zipped archive cannot be uploaded to KnowledgeTree. Also, although it is possible to bulk download content from KnowledgeTree, where these characters are in the file or folder names, Zip cannot unzip the archive on your local file system: ÃÄÅÁÁÂÄÆæàáäåãâăą ß ÊÉỄëéèėèêČčć¢ĐđğÍĺľíïìîĹĽ ŇñňÖỠỖÒÓỚóôöòðõøŔŕŠśšşŤťţ Ứ ÜÛÚÙüúûùųÝýÿŽżžçðþ) (related calls: 3762)
  • KTS-3762 - Characters that are disallowed on Windows causes Zip to fail. /\*<>|%+':" are stripped out of the document name when the document is Downloaded or Checked out with a Bulk Action (Any action that involves using the zip function) (related calls: 3763)
  • Translations - Where a phrase or word on a page on the KnowledgeTree interface has been updated after the translation was done, the page translation is disabled and the default language is displayed (i.e. English).
  • Indexing – when OpenOffice is not running, Indexing does not work. To resolve this issue, ensure that OpenOffice is running.
  • KTS-3620 - Uninstall on Vista


KnowledgeTree Drop Box

  • Drop Documents vulnerability

A bug in the DropDocument Plugin may allow unprivileged users administrator access to KnowledgeTree. This issue occurs where the Administrator does not have read/write access to the /DroppedDocuments folder, causing a fatal error that affects the DropDocument Plugin. More details and a fix may be found here.
